BKLYN CLAY Crack Repair Kit is a simple system devised to give new life to ceramic pieces. While results from this kit can resemble Kintsugi it is a separate process which relies solely on ceramic materials as a means of repair. Traditional Kintsugi uses Japanese lacquer and powdered gold or silver, to bond shards together. This kit uses Amaco bisque fix, Mayco stroke and coat glaze, and Duncan Metallic Overglaze (commonly called “luster”) to mend and repair cracks or breaks. The piece is refired and food safe when complete but should not be microwaved. It is recommended to lightly hand wash areas with luster to preserve the finish.
Kit includes instructions and all the materials needed to repair 1-2 projects.
Luster must be applied outdoors. When wet, luster releases toxic fumes. Our studio ventilation and spray booth is not designed to handle fumes. Luster must dry outdoors for a minimum of 4 hours up to 24 hours depending on the amount applied. When there is no longer a detectable scent the work is safe to enter the studio.
