This series of private lessons will introduce you to basic plaster mold making techniques for slip casting. This lesson will survery the mold making process, it is not designed for creating a mold of a specific work geared towards a production process. The item you make a mold from will be selected from our library of objects. All lessons will be based on 2 part molds. The package includes 3 sessions. Lesson 2 and 3 must be booked 1 week apart to allow the mold to dry. (see outline below).
Completion of this lesson series does not permit access to making molds independently at BKLYN CLAY. The mold making equipment is reserved for members who have enough prior knowledge to work safely and independently. Access is determined on a case by case basis after meeting with one of the studio directors. If you are a member with prior experience interested in utilizing the mold making equipment please email anders@bklynclay.com or gustav@bklynclay.com with an explanation of your background in mold making. It is helpful to supply photos of molds if you have them as well as cast items.
Plaster privates are restricted to 2 people maximum, and both people must work on the same mold together. If lessons are taken with 2 people, every session must be done jointly on the same date.
The package includes 3 sessions (see outline below) though some items may require additional lessons depending on their complexity, which will be an additional cost.
Lesson 1: 2 hours
• Introduction to casting
• Overview of mold making process
• Create 1 part of plaster mold
Lesson 2: 2 hours
• Create 2nd part of mold
• Further discussion and demonstration of casting
Lesson 3: 2 hours
• Using the mold created during the first two sessions, a cast will be made
• Demonstration on demolishing, cleaning part lines, altering
• Discussion on more complex molds that would require 3 plus parts
1 person: $600
2 people: $825
Lessons 2 and 3 must be at least 1 week apart (to allow for dry time).

Mondays & Tuesdays 9am-1pm
Thursdays 1-6pm
Fridays 9am-9:30pm
Sundays 7:30-9:30pm
All necessary materials are included in the package except slip, which you will select for the project and purchase from our clay shop according to your preference - the teacher can guide you through this purchase during the process.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY: To receive a full refund or to reschedule your private lesson or party, you must notify info@bklynclay.com at least 48 hours prior to the lesson. Within 48 hours of the scheduled lesson or party, there will be no refunds for cancellations or no-shows.
