It will be divided into two sessions. In the first session, participants will refine their handbuilding skills by working with larger scale, multilayered forms, emphasizing structure, control, and intentional design. The second session will focus on creative approaches to glazing including the use of spray guns, specialty glazes and select non-ceramic materials. Students will have two weeks between sessions to build and prepare their work for glazing. It is ideal for students who are already comfortable with handbuilding and are looking to refine their skills, build with greater control and achieve more intentional forms. Participants will learn essential techniques for crafting intricate clay flowers, such as shaping petals with molds, adding fine details and creating textures. Students will also learn how to construct picture frames from slabs and build floral compositions directly onto them. Each participant will have the opportunity to create a 12'’ x 112’’ x 4’’ clay picture. The bisque and glaze firing of one piece is included in the workshop fee.

Michele Xiaoyun Fan was born and raised in China.
